Welcome to Académie de la Paix

THE ACADEMY OF PEACE & THE CRANS MONTANA FORUM
In May 1967, a hero of the “France Libre”, close associate to the General de Gaulle in London, Mr. René Cassin met in his Conseil Constitutionnel’s Office in Paris with a very young Parisian Attorney at Law, Mr. Jean-Paul Carteron. Since this very moment, he brought to him his help and an endless careful paternal support.
The hyphen between the Cassin and Carteron’s families, at the origin of this meeting, was a “Juste parmi les Nations” who saved the life of some members of the Cassin’s family during the second world war.
This moment marked the young lawyer who never ceased, since then, to follow the impressive career of the one who was an author of the “Declaration Universelle des Droits de l’Homme”, a permanent fighter for the Human Rights, finally a recipient of the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1968 and also the creator of the International Institute for the Human Rights.
In 1972, René Cassin founded the Académie de la Paix of which he was the first Chairman. He aimed to create a meeting place where actors and observers of the international life could develop a dialogue free of any constraint.
The Académie de la Paix hardly survived the death of its Chairman, and slowly disappeared with the death of the eminent personalities who where in charge of the Academy and also the progressive extinction of public supports.
Committed to a more humane world, the Princely Fondation du Forum Universale, under the impulsion of its Chairman and Founder Jean-Paul Carteron restored, with the determinant support of the Crans Montana Forum, this extraordinary flame and now revives the Académie de la Paix.
This action aims to preserving the memory of the great Man, but also to insure the continuation of his ideal which was the availability, for the top decision makers of the World, of a very exceptional and unique meeting platform.
